For some reason, my review of "The Black Tulip" by Alexandre Dumas got 14 views at my blog--half the hits today! Wonder if there's something up.

Over at my SKJAM! Reviews blog, one of the widgets I have installed is YARPP (Yet Another Related Posts Plug-in), which gives a list at the end of each post of other posts on the blog that may be relevant to the reader's interests if they liked this post. Now that I have well over a thousand review posts to choose from, I decided to check which posts were the most recommended by this tool.

Patterns I noticed: Anthologies do well, probably because having multiple stories means that I've used multiple tags that will then intersect with other post's tags. Having common words in the title helped too, like "stories" or "death." (Books in the genres I read tend to have a lot of death.) Posts tend to be recommended much more after the date they were posted on than before that date.

Single word titles did poorly as a group; almost all posts got at least one reference link; the notable exception being the eighth volume of Vinland Saga, which was completely overshadowed by the other nine volumes.

The most referenced posts were seldom the most viewed, or necessarily the best-reviewed items. I'm posting the list of posts that got at least ten reference links for your possible amusement or comment. Stats as of July 11 2020.

So--for the past few months I've been attending meetings of a blogger subgroup of LinkedIn ( www.linkedin.com) the first Tuesday of each month at the Joule (http://joulemn.com/ )meeting space at 1200 Washington Ave in Minneapolis (close to Big Brain Comics.)

It's primarily meant for small business bloggers, but welcomes all bloggers and potential bloggers of any experience level. I am thinking of starting a pop culture review blog, myself.

This month we talked about SEO, Search Engine Optimization. Essentially, finding ways to get your blog to come higher in search engine results so that people randomly find it and then theoretically stay a bit and perhaps become regulars.

Various options were mentioned (having good videos related to your topic apparently works really well) but the main thing we discussed was the use of keywords. In your post title, in the first paragraph, in the meta description and in tags.

To give you some idea of what sort of bloggers we had, and to drive some traffic to their blogs, let's have a link list!

http://must-press-on.com Must-Press-ON is a fitness and health blog specializing in information about triathlon related subjects.

http://chrispalbicki.com/blog/ Blank Canvas is a blog promoting the art and writing of Christopher Palbicki.

https://pinterest.com/thegiftsofjoy/ The Gifts of Joy is not a full-fledged blog yet, but showcases the work of Joy Danielson, a "personal holiday planner".

http://weightlesschronicles.com/ W8lesschronicles is another health and fitness blog, concentrating on getting people to their preferred weight.

http://bvocal.net/category/blog BVocal is a small business that teaches effective voice projection and speaking techniques to businessfolk. I've had one of the introductory seminars, and it was pretty good.

http://girpromotions.com/category/marketing-ideas/ Graphics and Innovative Resources is a company that does marketing consulting and social media management for other companies.

http://skellegense.blogspot.com/ Skellegense is a yoga and meditation blog, mostly about the titular discipline.

http://www.technickconsulting.com/technicktips/ Another company that helps businesses improve their social media profile. Nick is also the manager of the Bloggers subgroup and organizes the live meetings.

If you like any of these, please pass them along, and tell the bloggers that SKJAM! sent you.

I voted at the Emerson School; fairly long lines as it was used for two precincts. Afterwards, saw that the school moms had coffee and cookies for freewill donations--apparently the students are planning a field trip to Puerto Rico.

Went down to the VA to get a veteran's ID--turns out I need to fill out a full application and mail it in, then stop back for the picture taking. (But if I had a medical emergency just my DD-214 would work.)

And tonight was a LinkedIn bloggers' group meeting at Joule (which is a dedicated meeting space designed for small to medium business groups.) The main topic was look and design.
