One of the most frequently reused plots of the Silver Age Superfamily titles was "supporting cast character temporarily gains superpowers, causing problems for the hero." Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane were the most common targets of this, but everyone got into the act, including some long-forgotten characters like the one we'll look at today.

This post contains what adds up to 7 2/3rds pages of 23 from the lead story in Superboy #157, "Get Lost, Superboy...Who Needs You?!" plus a special treat.

In my last post, we visited a potential future in which Kevin Keller can marry the man he loves and no one thought that was the least bit out of the ordinary.

But in the regular Archie comics, Mr. Keller must live in the eternal present. It's not quite as advanced a society....

Cover and four scans from Veronica Presents: Kevin Keller #4.

Previously, on Kevin Keller, our protagonist did well on Witmasters, a College Bowl-like TV show where he represented Riverdale. He's looking forward to a little less excitement.

Your wish has been denied! )

Have sent out quite a few of the surprises for the folks on [community profile] holiday_wishes and [community profile] wish_list. I know at least a few of them have arrived because the recepients have said so, and one definitely did not. (Gonna have to look into that.)

Need to wrap the presents I'm giving family members, and figure out who I've got left to shop for. My parents have asked for giving to a good cause this year, so that one's easy.

Made a couple of posts on Scans Daily, which is having a big December event.

Work goes okay.

Still trying to lose weight. Valiantly resisting my usual habit of buying cartons of egg nog and drinking them at a single sitting, but man I love egg nog. Exercise getting even harder to get around to with onset of snow, ice and frigid air.

Have received one package so far this season, I know who it's from and approximately what it might be, but am saving opening it for a little closer to Christmas. Also, my brother's family holiday letter.

Hope all of you are as well as can be expected, and keeping warm.

Remember my mentioning the new vending machines at work? Well, they're mostly installed now, and do look shiny and new. They came with a change machine, so I figured I'd get ready to do laundry tonight. As it happens, this change machine doesn't dispense quarters, but Zachary Taylor dollar coins. (I didn't even know they were up to President Taylor yet!) These too looked shiny and new.

Got almost all my family Christmas shopping done, so have started back up with the wishlist surprises. I'm not going to guarantee that these ones will arrive by Christmas, though.

Got a card from [personal profile] crevanfox. Thanks!

Oh, and yes, I got my laundry done.

Hmm, looks like I'll have to rescan a page for my next Scans Daily post--got munged in transmission. Always interesting to see what people will fasten on in the comments.

While waiting for the bus after work, I saw a deer walk across the parking lot directly in front of me. Six point buck. Closest I've been to a deer in years, let alone one that didn't have a wall between me and it. I hope it got across the highway to the woods okay.

And the computer issue that was chewing up two hours a day at work finally got fixed, allowing me to catch up on some back work and feel like I was "supporting the troops."

The Scans Daily community has closed its doors at InsaneJournal and is now transitioning over to Dreamwidth. As it happens, I managed to get in the very last scans post, and for now at least you can still see it--I think comments will still be live too.

Enjoy!

My aunt Judy is having Thanksgiving at her place again this year, after a well-deserved rest last year. Looking forward to seeing the clan.

Twisted my ankle Thursday morning coming down the front steps of my apartment building. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to have done any permanent damage, though still a bit sore.

Went to the MAS Halloween party the same night--it was pretty fun. The masquerade winner was a bit of a surprise, not so much best costume as best poses.

Still trying to catch up at work, since I missed the days last week. Even working overtime today only skimmed the surface.

In the afternoon, I went to the library to get some scans for Scans Daily. The scanner at my station was giving an error report, and the information desk librarian called tech support. An hour later, she called them again, this time getting a response. Unsurprisingly, the tech's suggestion (after checking the connection again) was to restart the computer. Also unsurprisingly, doing that voided my reservation, and the next person in line jumped up. It took some negotiation with him, the librarian, and a third patron who didn't understand the concept of reservations to get me back on the computer. This time the scanner worked, but I had to cut it short due to lack of remaining time. More to do next week, I guess.

Yeah, been a while. Again.

Some stuff happened--I got a couple of sampler CDs together for someone considering making a Dennou Coil AMV. I'm hoping they were at least inspirational.

Been doing a lot of overtime as we are still swamped at work. Need to try to keep a positive attitude, but that's easier when I'm allowed to set priorities, not have things dumped on me that are "more urgent than the stuff you're supposed to be doing immediately already." And the stuff I actually like doing and feel makes a positive impact is shoved to the back of the queue.

I am told that at least some of the more urgent than urgent stuff is having a software fix done. Maybe by November.

I enjoyed the Half-Price Books sale at the State Fairgrounds last weekend. CDs were fifty cents apiece.

I posted an entry on Scans Daily, but don't look at it yet, as even after two weeks of preparation I managed to screw it up, and it's going to take a day or two to fix.

Oh, and I'll be making an emergency visit to the dentist tomorrow, as something has gone drastically wrong with one of my back teeth and the flesh is swelling like no one's business.

So, how's by you?
